PDF Forms (AcroForms)

The PDF (portable document format) was invented by Adobe more than 20 years ago to make it easier to share documents across operating systems. Adobe also created Acrobat – the world’s leading PDF solution. When you create a PDF with Acrobat, you get a smart file that displays fonts and formatting just the way you want it to.

But that’s not where it ends. AcroForms are traditional PDF files with dynamic form fields that can operate on PCs, iPads and Androids. Typically, a baseline PDF form is created from an existing legacy form. It is then superimposed with fixed data fields, checkboxes and buttons etc. and JavaScript code, thereby turning it into an interactive electronic PDF form.

These forms have huge potential.

* They look like their printed counterpart – so the leap from familiar printed forms to online is second nature.

* AcroForms can be completed online or offline and sent once online. Working off-line is a huge benefit when placed against conventional online forms – for example; forms can be completed where no Internet is available.

* Because the forms are electronic in nature, the form field data can be extracted and managed on recipient back-office.

* The development and deployment is rapid and cost effective against online counterparts

* The flexibility of AcroForms is second to non. Forms can be designed as their print counterparts (which should be designed to OCR scanning requirements). The same artwork file can then be output as a PDF and then implemented with active fields.

PDF Acroforms are used in many sectors. A good example of a form we are all familiar with is the Tax Return. Various Government departments have used PDF technology to good effect. Is it a technology that would work for you?

Design Centric have been implementing PDF AcroForms for over a decade - forms for HR departments, licensing agencies and marketing departments etc.

We would be delighted to help you.
